Think about your classroom. In your mind, where do you see the technology in that room? (Think of all the possible technologies—computers, LCD projectors, handhelds, laptop carts, and more.) How will you set up the classroom to support students in working both with technology and with each other? Ask yourself the following questions:
Will the kinds of technologies you have envisioned support all of your students regardless of their learning strengths and weaknesses?
Will these technologies support your students in working together?
Will students have enough access to technologies to meet their learning needs?
Now think about teaching in that classroom:
How will you know students are learning what you intend them to learn?
How will you identify their preferred learning style and differentiate instruction in the classroom for them?
If they are not learning what you intend, how will you address that?

I beleive that there are a variety of technology tools that can serve all types of learners regardless of strengths and weaknesses. The beauty of technology is there is something for everyone!
ReplyDeleteThere are several tools available that will enable students to work together for things like peer editing, offering suggestions, reflecting on on another's work, and learning to engage in appropriate discussions that share different viewpoints.
At our school, there exists a wealth of technology to address the learning needs of all students. This includes those students with disbilities. Live voice programs, interactive tablets, Wynn systems, student response systems, and foreign languge speaking labs are just a few examples.
Using students response systems, teachers are able to immediately assess whether the students have a grasp of the material. This system also allows teachers to know what objectives to refocus on based on the students' understanding.
Technology allows instructors to differentiate instruction based on the style of learning that best fits the student or the current level of understanding of the student. There are many surveys associated with differentiated learning that can be used to determine a student's leanring style, which will enable the instructor to tailor instrucional strategies and grouping to meet these needs.
There are many technology based remedial programs that can be used to supplement instruction if a student is not learning as the teacher intends. Academcy of Math, Voyager Math, READ 180, Reading Navigator, IPASS, and many others are tech based programs that can be used to supplement instruciton or remediate a specific student.
